- This solar plant has required an investment of close to 20 million euros and has a photovoltaic field capacity of 26.98 MWp, with the capacity to generate 53,780.00 MWh per year.
- The facilities located in the municipality of Alange (Badajoz) will provide clean energy to more than 15,400 households with average consumption and will avoid the emission of around 5,400 tons of CO₂ per year.
- The Alange plant becomes the third of the five infrastructures planned by Umbrella to start operations for its network in Extremadura, which already reaches 60% of its total connection and is an important step forward in the energy transition of the region.
The Spanish company Umbrella Global Energy, specialized in solutions for the entire solar energy value chain, has started operations at its facilities in Alange (Badajoz), the company’s largest plant in Spain and the main structure of its network in Extremadura. The entry into operation of this infrastructure, with a photovoltaic field power of 26.98 MWp, will generate 53,780 kWh of clean energy per year to supply more than 15,400 households with an average consumption, managing to cut annual CO₂ emissions by more than 5,400 tons.
This solar plant has had an investment of close to 20 million euros and is the third of the five infrastructures planned by Umbrella for its project in the region, which already reaches 60% of its total connection. The set of facilities planned by the company will involve the start-up in 2025 of another two plants in the municipalities of Hornachos and Villafranca de Barros, together with those already active in Alange, Zafra and Olivenza. In total, the grid deployed by Umbrella in Extremadura will have a capacity of 45 MWp and will inject 90,679 MWh of renewable electricity into the public grid per year.
The commissioning of these facilities, whose energy production will be destined for the wholesale electricity market, will be an important step for the region in its energy transition process and in increasing the supply of clean energy available to consumers. The progress of this project consolidates Umbrella’s strategic shift from the construction of photovoltaic plants to an Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with which the company aims to become a key player in the global energy market.
“The start of operations in Alange is not only an important step for our pipeline in Extremadura, which will be completed with two new plants in 2025, but it is also a milestone both for Umbrella and for the promotion of renewable energies throughout the region. It is a project that has all the characteristics we are looking for in our new stage of transition towards a benchmark Independent Power Producer model: commitment to the local environment, improved access to clean energy sources for consumers and the achievement of real long-term decarbonization goals,” explained Enrique Selva, CEO of Umbrella Global Energy.
The Alange solar plant, like those previously built in Zafra and Olivenza, has an environmentally responsible design that harmonizes its operation with adaptation to the surroundings and minimization of the impact on the environment. To this end, the entire infrastructure is based on the original topsoil, which has been preserved to avoid compaction and loss of richness. The preservation of biodiversity has also been part of the sustainable approach of these facilities, thanks to specific measures that will be evaluated periodically, such as the installation of nesting boxes and shelters for reptiles and insects, designed to favor their reproduction and protection, or the creation of perches to maintain the presence of birds of prey in the area.
