- The new solar plant covers a roof area of 5,696 m², with an annual generation of 1,570.3 MWh/year and an output of 1.16 MWp.
- This is an installation that incorporates hybrid and pioneering technologies in the industrial field thanks to the intelligent energy storage system of Turbo Energy, a technology subsidiary of Umbrella.
- Its use will allow Acrylates to generate, store and consume energy locally and achieve an estimated energy saving of more than 47%, equivalent to 155,597 liters of oil, in addition to avoiding the emission of 393 tons of CO2 per year, with an environmental impact similar to that which would be achieved by planting 19,650 trees.
The Spanish company Umbrella Global Energy, which specializes in solutions for the entire solar energy value chain and previously operated under the IM2 Energía Solar brand, has completed the installation of a solar self-consumption plant with an intelligent energy storage system at the Acrilatos factory located in Onda (Castellón). Acrilatos is an industrial chemical company leader at national level in the development and production of deflocculants and additives for the ceramic sector, being also present in other productive sectors such as detergents and mineral milling, both at national and export level.
This is an installation that incorporates hybrid technologies, incorporating a photovoltaic solar plant covering a roof area of 5,696m², with a generation of 1,570.3 MWh/year and a power of 1.16 MWp, as well as the innovative Sunbox Industry energy storage system, developed by Turbo Energy, a technology subsidiary of Umbrella.
The Sunbox Industry system, a pioneer in the field of energy storage for industrial uses and powered by artificial intelligence, is an active storage solution that will allow Acrilatos to control production and energy consumption in real time, as well as an intelligent prediction through the use of AI on the best times to consume or sell energy and optimized savings through the use of stored energy, among other benefits. This is because AI predicts the best times to consume from the grid and obtain greater savings based on the plant’s energy generation and other parameters, such as the company’s consumption behavior, hourly energy prices or weather forecasts, among others. In addition, it reinforces grid stability and security of supply by also functioning as an emergency generator and providing back-up power with battery storage.
47% energy savings through solar technology and smart storage
Thus, Acrilatos will have an integral solution that will allow it to generate, store and consume energy locally and generate savings in the cost of energy in the long term. The commissioning of this facility will also allow an estimated energy saving of more than 47%, equivalent to the consumption of 155,597 liters of oil. In addition, it will avoid the emission of 393 tons of CO2 per year, which means a positive impact in environmental terms similar to that which would be achieved by planting 19,650 trees. With all this, Acrylates achieves access to a renewable and decarbonized energy supply, fulfilling its objectives of sustainability and reduction of the carbon footprint.
“With this installation, Acrylates leads a more competitive and sustainable energy model within the ceramic sector. The incorporation of smart storage makes the difference by guaranteeing stability, savings and long-term sustainability,” explained Enrique Selva, CEO of Umbrella Global Energy.
Intelligent storage is a key element for managing renewable energy installations in industrial environments, such as solar self-consumption plants, maximizing savings, profitability, efficiency and competitiveness of industries.
