Umbrella begins operating its solar plant in Gibraleón (Huelva)

  • The Gibraleón photovoltaic plant comes into operation after an investment of 4 million euros, with a peak power of 4 MWp and an estimated annual production of 6,282 MWh.
  • This generation capacity will cover the equivalent electricity consumption of nearly 2,000 homes per year, actively contributing to the decarbonization of the energy mix in the region.
  • The project is part of Umbrella’s strategy to consolidate its position as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) and move towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy model in southern Spain.

Umbrella Global Energy, a global investment company focused on key sectors such as solar energy, electric mobility and energy storage technology, has started operating its solar plant in the municipality of Gibraleón (Huelva). The park, which has involved an investment of 4 million euros, has a peak power of 4MWp and will generate an estimated annual production of 6,282 MWh of renewable energy, enough to supply the average electricity consumption of about 2,000 homes.

With its entry into operation, the emission of about 750 tons of CO₂ per year will be avoided. This action reinforces Umbrella’s commitment to the energy transition and to the development of projects that integrate sustainability, efficiency and social responsibility in the local environment.

The Gibraleón plant is part of Umbrella’s strategic plan to evolve from a model based on the construction of infrastructures to its consolidation as an Independent Power Producer (IPP). In this new phase, the company is committed to operating and managing its own renewable generation assets with a positive, long-term impact, both environmentally and economically.

Responsible environmental approach and integration with the environment

The design and execution of the Gibraleón photovoltaic farm has been guided by a responsible environmental approach, in line with the company’s ESG strategy. Since the initial phase of the project, specific measures have been incorporated to reduce its impact and promote the conservation of the environment. These include the use of grazing as a clearing method, a practice that eliminates the use of pesticides and pesticides and, in addition to protecting the ecosystem, is integrated into a circular economy model that supports the activity of local livestock farmers. Emission control measures were also applied during the construction phase, such as limiting the speed of vehicles on site and implementing specific environmental risk management protocols. Finally, in 2024, the project’s environmental footprint was calculated, a process that included the detailed recording of the consumption of irrigation water, fuels, materials, waste and other resources used specifically in the execution of the plant.
